The Girls Lacrosse team has tirelessly battled their way through this season, resulting in a 3-6 win record.   The team is optimistic about improving this record next year due to their combination of determination, teamwork, enthusiasm, and persistence.

A supportive and encouraging community is an important aspect of any team, and Girls Lacrosse has illustrated their strong bonds on and off the field. The spring break trip to Florida was a huge success and fueled the team’s eccentric chemistry.

Captain Junior Kata Buttrey stated, “After the spring break trip, I think we’ve become really close, and the team has been a lot better and really fun to be a part of.”

The spring break trip was the catalyst for new connections and has been fostered through day-to-day activity. Whether it be in a class or in the locker room, the players of the Girls Lacrosse team can find the comforting face of their teammates to joke around with.

Senior Captain Emma Kee said, “From inside jokes to team dinners, the team has a really strong connection on and off the field.” On the field, the players are able to understand each other’s movements.

Their undeniable chemistry is a testament to their strong friendships. “We were able to reflect on the new skill sets we learned during our practices and our games, and I think it had a domino effect on the rest of the team,” Junior Katharyn Nugent said.  “It just had such an immense impact on how close we are and our ability to communicate with each other.” While the team’s chemistry on and off the field helped guide them, their coaches also played a foundational role in the team’s successes this season.

This year’s Girls Lacrosse coaches are Jennifer Mohr, Katharyn Bitonti, Shannon Holliday, and Laura Lo. With the insightful guidance of all of them, they have helped this team become the best version of themselves.

“We also would not have been able to see the improvements we have seen without the support and dedication from our coaches,” Junior Riley Knakmuhs says, “they have been the leading force in building this program up.” While the coaching staff has stayed the same since last year, the girls on the team feel a stronger connection to them this year. This bond translates into their playing and allows the players to feel more comfortable while still playing hard.

The coaches have made practices enjoyable, exemplified by a Minute to Win It-themed practice where they dressed up and played games. Junior Talia Brodsky said, “I love how our coaches help motivate us each day and especially during game days, since they encourage us all to write an inspirational word or quote on our wrists or someone who we want to win for.” This tradition helps cultivate team spirit and motivate the players to win.

While the Girls Lacrosse team had an impressive season athletically and personally, they lost the first round of the ISL championship to National Cathedral School. But don’t worry! The Girls Lacrosse team will be back and better than ever next year, and they have great plans for the future.
