This year the tent competition is going to be a heated awards show standoff. All of the tents have a chance, but there can only be one winner. This article will review all the tents’ pros and cons and give a prediction as to who might win.
The freshman class is doing the Oscars. This tent has a lot of room for participation. There are a lot of opportunities for small roles, such as paparazzi and the audience, and for big roles, such as the host and actors. There is also room for humor and spoofs on previous years. This show choice gives the freshman a serious advantage because most people have seen a lot of movies in the Oscars, so if there are references to movies, most people can catch on. One of the cons is that it might be difficult to incorporate the judges of the competition in the skit. Another is that the freshman class is new to the tent competition, while most of the veterans remember other tent competitions of the past. If the class can pull together, they have a big chance of placing high in, or even winning, the tent competition.
The sophomores are doing the Ms. America pageant this year. This is a very smart plan for the sophomores, because, like the freshman class’s idea, the opportunity for participation is huge. There will be a lot of opportunity for big roles to be the models and an announcer. They can also incorporate the judging panel into their skit, which is always a crowd pleaser. They can also use humor to their advantage when the models are answering questions. The audience can be huge as well. The one con that might be a challenge is whether to make a spoof of the most recent competition or create a totally new plan. The sophomores plan is almost flawless this year, and they are definite contenders in the tent competition.
The junior class will be doing the KCAs. These are awards that are given to actors and chosen by kids, so I will be excited to see if the juniors keep all the award winners in their skit relevant to the shows they watched when they were kids or if they make it more realistic by having their award winners be current actors and singers. I think this will be extra entertaining to the audience, especially if they include as much slime as they do in the real show! I definitely think it is an interesting choice and think it could be one of the best skits if they execute it well.
The senior class has chose to use the theme of the VMAs which is one of the most popular award shows. Usually in this award show there is some specific thing that is controversial every year such as Miley Cyrus’ and Robin Thicke’s performance, so I am sure the seniors will incorporate something of that sort into their skit. This will create lots of audience interest. The senior class is generally the strongest after all their years of experience, but we will see if these seniors will be able to keep with the constant theme of seniors winning. The strict rule on time limit will change some things this year because last year so many skits ran over with almost no penalty, especially the seniors.
In conclusion, I think there is a lot of room for mistakes, big surprises, and high victories this year. Honestly, at this point, it is too early to call a definite front runner but I think the seniors and the sophomores have some great ideas brewing. The juniors and freshmen are not far behind so every grade better watch their backs! Good luck to all!
