As many of you know the trays have been taken away. What most of you probably don’t know is that, for the for seeable future, the middle and upper school will no longer have trays for each person, but the elementary students will still have the trays due to the fact that it is harder for them to carry all of their food. Although if you are a middle or upper school student and you just can’t carry everything you can ask the people at the serving area for a tray. The replacement for the trays is champagne plates, which are about 13 by 9 inches.

All of you should be asking by now why the trays were taking away. The main reasons were because of helping the environment. The first example is the school could buy reusable cups to replace the 15,100 cups thrown away, and without the trays the school can clean more of the cups with less detergent than with the trays. Also, the trays make us want to fill the area with food even if we can’t eat it. This in turn reduces the Styrofoam we get rid of and is placed in a landfill. Many of you would now ask why not get some compostable plates; well there are no compostable landfills within the area that the plates would be taken to. The group who had allowed this to happen was the SGA and so far the response has been positive.
