The St. Andrew’s Lions dominated their first home match of the season against Washington Latin with a final score of 40-6. Freshman Liam Corrigan Reich started strong with a quick win, pinning his opponent. He was followed by Freshman Juan Molina, in what was the most exciting match of the night. From the outset, Molina attacked his opponent head on, almost earning him an immediate win. He ultimately pinned down his rival during the second period, ending with a commanding score of 15-3. Fourth year wrestler Junior Zein Haidar, who received third at the Holloway Tournament at St. James, strategically overpowered his opponent in yet another exciting match during the first period. Senior Jack Tsintolas also won his match during the first period. Senior Tristan Chen dominated his opponent in a hard-fought match, with a final score of 14-5. Freshman Meehan Imam also wrestled through a tough match, along with Senior Brian Huber, who won by pinning. The Lions finished the night out with a strong win against Washington Latin and immediately began preparing to face their next opponent, the Potomac School.
With the team ending with a win against Washington Latin and a strong finish at the Holloway Tournament, there is optimism for a winning season. Coach Evans has high hopes that the newcomers, along with a core group of returning wrestlers, will take the team far this year, possibly ending with MAC Titles.
