Four talented athletes from the class of 2024 have officially committed to their respective Division I college teams. These students, who have excelled in their sports, are set to embark on their next athletic endeavors at the collegiate level. As the ink dries from St. Andrew’s signing day, the school community cannot wait to see how these athletes will perform at the next level.

St. Andrew’s signing day is a day when the senior athletes who have committed to their college sit down at the St. Andrew’s signing table and sign their contract. Each athlete also receives a poster of themselves with the school logo. This is a day to highlight these talented athletes and showcase their hard work that has paid off.

All four of these athletes also had great advice for younger athletes trying to shine in their own sports.

The first athlete is Joe Umhofer, who committed to Southern Methodist University (SMU) for swimming. Joe has been swimming since he was young, but did not fully commit to swimming until recently. Joe had great advice for other athletes that puts a different spin on how sports should be played.

“The greatest advice I can give is to fail. Simply fail,” Umhofer said. “In those times where you are angry and disappointed in yourself,  “that you can use as fuel on Monday morning and get back to work.”

Umhofer’s work ethic and determination has landed him into a top men’s swimming program.

Another athlete who has committed to a D1 school is Nariah Goldman, who will be playing soccer next year at American University. Goldman said that, “it feels great. I am really excited to go play in college.” All of Goldman’s hardwork has paid off to become a star at the next stage. Her advice for younger athletes was, “don’t give up, even though it might be hard.”

St. Andrew’s third college athlete commit is Reagan Phillips. Phillips has committed to the University of South Carolina for swimming.

“If you have a goal, there will be difficulties along the way,” said Phillips. “But I think that’s what makes you the best athlete you can be”. This mentality has allowed her to commit to a top swimming school.  She said she is “happy that all [her] hard work paid off.”

The final athlete is Connor Phillips, who has committed to Boston University for lacrosse. Connor is a four star recruit through InsideLacrosse.com.

Connor’s mindset is that you are “not getting any better by giving up on your goals.” Because of this commitment, he is also “relieved to have only one college application to figure out.”

These athletes are commencing new journeys, but their impacts on the St. Andrew’s athletics programs will leave a lasting impression.
