The fall season has come to a close, and the Lions finished in good fashion. The Boys Varsity Soccer Team had a great season, as they were even ranked by the Washington Post at one point. After a third-place finish in the regular season they beat Sidwell in the first round in a thrilling game. They travelled to Flint Hill for the semifinal game, and, after trailing 1-0, Michael McDonnell-Diaz scored with less than 10 minutes remaining. Alex Smith also stopped a penalty kick with three minutes left. However, the Lions couldn’t pull out a victory, as they lost to the Huskies in penalty kicks. They ended their season on a well-fought game, and they should be proud of having one of their better seasons in recent years. The Girls Varsity Soccer Team also had a good year. Behind Jarena Harmon’s division-leading 22 goals, the girls finished in 5th place. Although they lost in the first round of the tournament, they had a great season and look to continue their success next year.
The Girls Varsity Volleyball Team had themselves a tremendous season. With a great run in the ISL tournament, the girls made it to the Championship. Sadly, they lost a heartbreaker to Sidwell in the final. They came in second place in the ISL-A division in the regular season. With young players contributing plenty of hard work on the team, the Lions will be a force to be reckoned with next year.
Both Boys and Girls Cross Country had great seasons. The boys finished their year off by taking 3rd in the State Meet. Senior Will Dove finished the race in 5th place, with a personal best of 18:07. The girls won their State Championship, with Mackenzie Kynoch and Elizabeth Holland coming in 4th and 9th respectively. Both JV teams also performed well in States. Amenah Morgan won the Girls JV race, capping a win for the Lady Lions. Freshman Colin Hendrie grabbed third place to secure the victory for the JV boys, as he, sophomore Marcel Wiedmaier, and freshman Gordon Reeves all earned JV all-state honors. Overall, Cross Country had a great ending for a great season.
Also, congratulations to the JV teams in the fall for their seasons. Although fall sports may be over, winter sports are starting up. Basketball season is here, and both teams are looking to improve on the success from last year. Plus, wrestling and indoor track season has started. Congratulations to all of the Fall Sports Teams!
