To generate school spirit for the forthcoming homecoming festivities, the Upper School did their annual tent competition.
Freshmen
This year, the freshmen put out a tent pitch for the decade of 1970, and although the main points of the era were captured, it lacked any sort of dialogue or detail. The tent was missing any notable decorations, lacked humor, and lasted only two minutes. One without knowing any details would agree that this tent really was an amateur tent. The good news is that they are freshmen and they still have a lot of time to reconstruct and to bounce back with a much better showing next year.
Sophomores
The sophomore tent was more of a classic and reminiscent kind of show that was put on to remind the audience of past memories of watching funny old TV shows when they were kids. Unlike the freshmen, the sophomores implemented skits into their presentation with humorous dialogue from an Anchorman act. However, the tent lacked any decoration at all and was not very visually appealing.
Juniors
The juniors, in my opinion, had the best tent by far. They not only used modern dances and music in their skit, but they also had excellent characters that were played by the right people. They were funny, and used distinct events of the 2010 decade to capture their audience well. They even threw in some things about the faculty and staff that elicited mixed responses from the audience. All in all, a strong performance and one that will be remembered.
Seniors
The seniors looked to begin their final year with a bang. They embodied thought and major musical artists of the 1990s as well as the social aspect of the decade. Not only was there accurate apparel of the era, but also there was also live music in rap battles. Besides this, their tent was pretty average. Unlike some of the other classes, they did have decent decoration. Likewise, the ideas behind the tent were predictable and not exciting.
These tents brought a lot of spirit and excitement to St. Andrews for the weekend games, which culminated at Saturday night’s dance.
