On a brisk Saturday afternoon, the boys’ varsity soccer team battled the Heights Cavaliers on Brumbaugh Field in what proved to be an exciting and hard-fought game. Early in the contest, the Cavaliers went on the attack, but were driven back consistently by a strong defensive effort by Senior James McLeish and Sophomores Baraka Kiingi, Roman Toepler, and Luke Armbruster, and excellent work in goal by Junior Alex Smith. However, the Cavaliers pushed through and scored their first two goals in the first half. Behind by two goals, the Lions came out aggressively in the second half, and Freshman Gage Adam scored their first goal. Fifteen minutes later, the crowd roared as the Lions’ tied the game with their second goal off of a corner kick, scored by Senior Aidan Wallace. The game then developed into a defensive stalemate until the 83rd minute when the Cavaliers struck back and scored on an open goal as goalie Alex Smith ran forward to stop a Heights attacker who had broken through the defense. Despite close shots by Freshman Juan Molina and Gage Adam, and a continuation of great defense, the Lions were unable to come back, ending the game 3-2. The Lions fall to 4 and 6 in the season.
