Homecoming was last Saturday, October 18th, and this year many clubs set up tables along the middle school circle to visit after the Walkathon. One table of focus was Creaturae, our literary magazine, who decided to engage the members of the St. Andrew’s community through the “Paint Bomb Project”. The aim of this project was to allow everyone to develop a passion for art and have fun in preparation for Homecoming night. Club members pre-filled balloons with vibrant blue, yellow, red, pink, and green paints while awaiting the arrival of participants. Varying lengths of pins were poked through canvases to create an efficient way to burst the paint balloons. Students of all grades and even a few faculty members attempted to rupture the balloons, causing a rousing splattering of color across the canvas, as well as the Creaturae staff. Many spectators and participants watched each balloon in anticipation to see how each hit would create an entirely new mood and look for the soon to be work of art. Throughout the day numerous individuals took their turn contributing their throwing skills by aiming at the two large canvases. Transformations of the art could be witnessed from moment to moment with each person’s successful impact. At the end of the day, the canvases were decorated with an array of various colors and shapes. It’s safe to say the Paint Bomb Project was a success and with luck, it will become a Homecoming tradition to be maintained for years to come. One might ponder what will happen to these two masterpieces? The Creaturae has plans to help raise funds for the school by auctioning off the paintings at St. Andrew’s annual auction.

Homecoming

Each year the literary magazine is published as a celebration of the art and literature produced by the students of St. Andrew’s. However, this year the club’s seniors, Noa West and Tom Banks, decided to open the season with a focus more oriented on visual art. By doing this project, the club was trying to prove that everyone at St. Andrew’s can be a part of Creaturae, or at least enjoy themselves by aiding in the construction of terrific works of art. Throughout the year there will be various art and writing competitions held, leading up to the release of the magazine in late spring. Stay tuned for more events that will let you explore the artist and writer inside of you.
